Meet Jamin Smith, Digital Content Manager for the City of Lakeland. With over seven years of experience working for the City, Jamin oversees the organization’s social media platforms and website. He specializes in creating informative, engaging, inclusive, and accessible content that connects with his audience.
Jamin earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from the University of Central Florida. During his undergraduate years, he showcased his talents as a graphic designer, working at UCF’s Student Union and interning with the school’s athletic department. At the University, Jamin participated in various campus clubs, including the Graphic Design Student Association, and even won a national championship in rugby. After graduation, Jamin served on the AIGA Orlando’s Executive Board as a Social Media Strategist until 2018. He then continued his education by obtaining a Master of Science in Digital Audience Strategies from Arizona State University.
As an entrepreneur, in 2016, he founded J. Elevate, Inc., specializing in branding, design, and marketing. Jamin’s passion for storytelling through filmmaking is evident in his collaboration with local creatives to produce documentaries and community-focused video projects. Formerly volunteering as the Director of Communications for the Lakeland NAACP, he has also pioneered as the first Black host of the City of Lakeland’s Christmas Parade.
Today, Jamin serves as Vice President of the Polk County Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, where he mentors youth, showcasing his dedication to positive community impact. Driven by a passion for making a difference, Jamin continues to serve and inspire in his hometown.
