the afghan by frederick forsyth. reading “dry” by augusten burroughs
What book is next?
maybe “hoopla” the cpb book. honestly, reading bores me. i know it doesn’t make for a smart intellectual answer. i prefer to look at the pix in 20 different mags than read one book. i know people who read lots of books and i don’t see the roi in their“smarts”. does talking biz lingo make me sound smarterer? :-0

What’s your opinion of the local design scene? dig it, hate it? why?
Dig it. Obviously there is always room for improvement. The local
design scene is much stronger than the advertising scene [which is sad]. But i don’t have a problem as long as someone is bringing attention to the central florida market. Anyone. Us ad guys deff need to step it up a notch.
The design dudes get more national exposure than the ad agencies and more consistently. Lure, Eye Noise, Steve Carsella, Larry Moore - these guys set the bar for this market. The fact Jeff Matz was invited to judge the c/a design annual is huge. I believe it may be a first for this market. One of Larry Moore’s illos was selected as the cover of the illustrators guild annual - also huge. Advertising is doing better lately, but we still can’t relax. Tom Woodward and the lads at Anson Stoner won a Mercury Award for radio - huge. FHB has 2 Athena Awards - mucho grande. and for those who’ve had the privilege to feel my One Show Gold Pencil, well, it may not be huge, but it is heavy as hell - ha!
What’s something you’d like to see happen in the design profession?
more respect, appreciation and compensation for the solutions we offer our clients. Maybe if we change our titles to design or idea architects we might get there one day. At least with the compen$ation part. i would also like to see more hunger from the younger kids. there are exceptions of course, but for the most part they seem too complacent. They are lazy. I want to see more hunger. More drive. More. and speaking of lazy - I want to see the eleethax create another ‘open”. we need to get off our arse hax.
Who inspires you?
People who have a fearless attitude. creatives who experiment in different medias. Karim Rashid. Nadav kander. Richard Branson. Paul Gehry. Mathew Barney. Beck. Peter Arnell. Thierry Henri. Caravaggio. Adidas. Agencies - kessels kramer. CPB. 180°. on a local level > Siege. John Deeb. Jeff Matz. Andrea Cardenas. Tom Hope.
What inspires you?
The world becoming smaller via the www is inspiring. It’s inspiring to know a total stranger in Amsterdam, South Africa or maybe Hong kong can see your work and send u an email with props. It’s a rush. I think smoking crack can do the same. And the usual gay stuff > the hope of peace. Music. Art. Fashion. Comedy. NYC. Amsterdam. Futbol. Golf. Travel.
