Prior to AIGA Orlando, the area's creative industry found inspiration and social fun with the Creative Club of Orlando. It became obvious as the years rolled on however that Orlando was outgrowing this local club and was ready for a national stage and affiliation with the broader design community.
In 2000, AIGA Orlando was born out of a casual conversation at a pool party. Momentum built and a vote was held to dismantle the Creative Club and establish our chapter. 25 founding members paid their dues, a Board was established, many, many documents were signed and an unveiling of the new group was held at the now-defunct Harley Hotel. Within a short time the first event was organized (YeeHaw Industries at the Social), quickly followed by the first Spot talent showcase, held at the Orlando Science Center.
Since then, that 25-person strong membership has grown 7 times over and some of the biggest names in the industry have offered their vision for design to our members, complemented by mentorship programs, exhibits, socials and local events.
